Collaboration with Alberto Checa.
The Performance consists of two performers DJing. As this is happening, code running in Grasshopper 3D and TouchDesigner from both the computers being used to DJ is analyzing the sound and simultaneously creating and rendering a reactive 3d model. However there is no screen displaying the 3D model. Instead, a command within the code is taking a capture of the 3D model every 5 seconds and sending it to a copy paper printer placed between both DJ’s. Throughout the DJ set, the printer is continuously printing out single frame renders of the model. Every time the Printer runs out of paper, one of the DJ’s will reload it and continue DJing. In conclusion the piece itself is an exploration of both the possibilities of introducing DJing into a fine arts context as well as the process of going between a physical, digital, and back to a physical world.
